So if you’ve been around here for a while, or know me even a little, you’ll understand my love of the darker side of things. No offense if you love yourself some Lilly Pulitzer but that’s just not for me. No judgement. All god’s children, etc. You may remember this art piece I created, which explains my sense of humor with it all.
I was recently asked to do a dark commission art piece…a gothic-inspired creation, if you will. I love a good challenge, so I was excited to take this head on.
Some inspiration came from:
- 19th century London
- Penny Dreadful (see first bullet)
- skulls (shocker)
- mixed media/multi-layer
I have really been into the mixing of media lately and this dark commission was going to be no exception. I used acrylic, paper, fire (burning of paper), and newspaper. I really love how this piece turned out. And I of course didn’t want to post until the owner received it and gave feedback. I get nervous for these types of things!
As you can see, it went through a few different phases of the process with the last one being the final. What do you think? It’s ok if you don’t enjoy, but hopefully you can see the intricate detail and time I spent. This one took 4-5 sessions/multiple hours of work.
Now I need to get back to work so I can fill my Etsy shop again…she’s looking a little slim lately. My next updates to the site will include some lower price points so you guys can snag some small fun pieces that don’t break the bank! Anyway, work never ends! And I’d have it no other way.
