So, I’m just going to say it…not all of you will get this post. Hell, I could even lose some followers. But, hear me out and read through before judgment. Most of you should get my humor by now, anyway. I’m a weird, sometimes dark, usually funny, girl. I put green in my hair, have tattoos, rock a nose ring (going on almost 20 years), and care not about what people think of me. So, when I decided to create some controversial art, it came as no surprise to people who know me best.
Even my momma said, “well it’s a bit dark, but funny” – she gets me.
I mentioned on Monday (and insta last week) that I purchased a lovely print from fellow local artist Steph Wood. Boobs in my living room, only certain people can appreciate that kind of taste. (And I wonder why I haven’t found the right mate, ha).
I had been looking for a while for two replacements for some wall art above my tv. This print ^^ really spoke to me, and I decided to pair it with something fun of my own. I was inspired by a random insta found by a friend and decided to do my own take on it (with a skull, shocker of the year).
Some freehand script. Not so bad, right? This is the the part where I actually laugh, because I so dislike this phrase. No judgement if you have it mounted on your wall or tattooed on your bod, it’s just that I see it everywhere. And it feels so cliché. Again, no judgment; just not my style. And at this stage of my art game, I started adding my own flare. I’m using colored pencils and markers at this point, in case you’re curious.
Can you see where I’m going with this? It’s taking a turn, right? Swearing! Eek. It’s where I started to giggle. Maybe it was the bourbon. Or just the irony. But the skull is pretty. Flowers! Très girly. Only a mother could love.
And for the finished piece…
So, I kinda love this piece. Yes that is my hand print on the left. I see it as a funny conversational piece. Why not have a laugh and start a chat? No, I don’t literally want anyone to die. Nor do I want to offend anyone. It’s just my silly, dark sense of humor with my controversial art. And for those of you who are still around at the end of this post, I heart you just a little bit more ;)
