A 5k, an obstacle course and a scavenger hunt – all in the name of fun. That’s how Joey and I, otherwise known as Team McGibblets*, spent our Saturday night completing the Expedition Everest Challenge. The race started at 10pm in Animal Kingdom in Disney World, which is a little bit of a hike from our houses (under an hour) but totally worth it. We corralled in like cattle (what else goes in a corral?) and waited for our start. Running through the park at night was a lot of fun. The three obstacles along the way – hay bales we had to jump over, tires we had to walk through and then army crawling through the mud and sand under a net – all made us more tired and did not break up the running like we thought. But they were fun. Side note – I was grateful I had my phone in a ziplock by the end for the army crawl. No sweaty/muddy phone for me!
The scavenger hunt had us basically go back into the park
and run the 5k again to solve 4 clues to cross the finish line. Not gonna lie – we were kinda shocked we were able to figure out most of them as the sneak peak clues before the race were too difficult for me, ha. Anndddd – so you have to finish the final clue to get to the finish line and we didn’t get it. We somehow got our medals without answering the final question. Sorry Disney. We were too stumped. And I guess will never know what stinking color was the right answer. Red? Was it white since yellow ends with a “w”?
Then it was party time. Scarfed down a banana and some Clif bars then off to play in the park. Rode some little dinosaurs that remind me of the Dumbo ride and then did Expedition Everest (of course) – which, I must add, is SO cool at night in the dark. Highly recommend if you can pull that off. By then, it was 1am and we were beat. Then it was home to sleep. So, if you like 5k’s and adventure – this race is for you. Disney definitely doesn’t disappoint. Team McGibblets is on to the next one!
