My love of all things bourbon is no secret. In fact, I think I cover this subject almost weekly. And when I mentioned the other week that I received an opportunity to go to a bourbon tasting and dinner with Master Distiller Fred Noe and the Jim Beam team, this girl was jumping up and down with excitement.
For those not in the know, Fred is the great grandson of the infamous Jim Beam. That’s right, THE Jim Beam. I met him last summer at the Kentucky Bourbon Affair and instantly got along so I knew this night would be a blast.
The tasting was held at The Woods, downtown. I brought my girl Pamela for fun – because events are better when you can share them with your bestie. Bottles were signed, drinks were had and Fred explained the history of the bourbons we tasted. I also asked him random questions like, “what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever signed?” To which he responded, “The hood of a car in Australia.” I didn’t quite believe that was the craziest but asked him to sign my cell phone case anyway (especially since I didn’t have a bottle).
Next thing I know, I turn around to see Fred holding a bottle as he asks me, “what would you like it to say?” I of course ask whatever does he mean. He tells me the bottle is for me! Oh my goodness was I excited. See that bottle at the end of the post? That rare beauty is all mine.
After the tasting, Pamela and I joined the Beam team and the owners of The Woods, Courtesy and Cask for a dinner at The Rusty Spoon. It was so fun getting to know the team and we ate and drank until we were about to burst.
What a night. Definitely one I won’t ever forget. A big shout out goes to Bryan for setting this up and to Fred for being such a great host!
Til next time, Jim Beam. Til next time.
