I’m one of the weird ones. Often when I ask people that currently live in Florida (and a few who actually grew up here), they tell me they want to leave and live somewhere with seasons. Somewhere cold. Somewhere with more culture. (Ok, I agree with that one-oh Orlando, you’ve got nothing in that regard.) But my typical response is to give them a blank stare, while trying to sympathize, nod and smile. Because, deep down, I actually like it here.*
Now don’t get me wrong, Florida has its moments. Those hurricanes. The awful hot and sticky summers. The really poor drivers also known as tourists and snow birds. But overall, it’s not so bad. We definitely do not have snow and the mess that comes with it. We don’t have gray days, but once in a blue moon. And we are close to the beaches. Not too bad right? Not to mention I have that great job that I’ve worked my butt off to be in. I met my best friend/hottie boyfriend here. And I have amazing friends (minus one bestie who is back home in PA) who I am so grateful for. I am definitely lucky.
So Florida, this is to you. For 8+ years, you’ve given me so much. Thank you sunshine state!
*caveat: Florida and I may break up one day and that’s ok. But for everything you’ve given me, it has been a great ride.
Here’s some random Florida images for you, taken by moi …
View when I was leaving my apt – kinda nice, right?
This is said best friend, Laurie. (PS we are actually in PA here)
