Day two of my bourbon tour for the Kentucky Bourbon Affair was spent at Jim Beam Master Distiller Fred Noe‘s house. Yes his house. (Insider tip: Fred is the grandson of THE Jim Beam.) After an hour drive, about 25 of us made our way to the back of the Beam house and entered the man cave.
There was the partaking of tasty cocktails by Beam’s very own Master Mixologist Bobby G, as well as munchies galore. Afterwards, we ventured outside to begin the “Great Whiskey Debate.” Seventh generation Jim Beam Master Distiller, Fred Booker Noe (as mentioned above), battled it out in an old fashioned debate with ambassadors Kieran Folliard (Kilbeggan), Simon Brooking (Laphroaig) and Dan Tullio (Canadian Club) as they discussed the merits of whiskey from around the world.
After tasting all four, of course the Booker’s bourbon came out as the top fav by most (including me). I’m not much of a scotch fan (hint: not at all) but this definitely gave me a better appreciation for the smoky beverage.
All-in-all, an awesome afternoon. Next up? Some skeet shooting and a Wild Turkey hunt.
