I’m not sure where to begin. On this day, 1 year ago…49 beautiful humans lost their lives. They left us too soon in a place they loved. In a place I call home. Some days have been harder than others, while others have passed with the blink of an eye. I can’t begin to imagine how the survivors and first responders feel. This was a moment in time for Orlando, the city beautiful…and it’s a moment we’re never going to forget. All of us were affected, and after June 12, 2016, we’ll never be the same.
The past year has been difficult in so many ways. There is violence and hated around every turn. It hurts my heart that upon hearing about yet another act of violence day after day, that we are beginning to be immune to it all. A new norm? I never wish that to be true. I feel like each one hurts just the same.
Today, I’m proud to say, is now known as Orlando United Day. I won’t speak again about the pain from the immediate aftermath, nor the moments of reflection I had in the months following. Instead, I hope you join me and the residents of Orlando, as we honor the memory of the 49, support the survivors, and spread compassion. As a day of love and kindness; I only wish to spread the same.
Act. Love. Give.
We are one heart. And one Pulse.
