By Friday of the Kentucky Bourbon Affair, I’ve decided to spend the last two nights at the hotel where this event is being organized – the Marriott Louisville East – Louisville’s very own bourbon hotel. What a great decision that was as I was finally able to let loose a little. No driving, no problem! [Special shout out to the KDA for organizing all the awesome transportation for us!]
For this night, I hopped on the bus to go downtown (which had hellish traffic, but worth it as it was mainly for Pride weekend downtown!). Destination? The Jim Beam Urban Stillhouse on 4th Street.
We immediately grabbed a hat and bib as this event was going to be far from fancy. Joined by Master Distiller Fred Noe (and his son Freddie), we all decorated our aprons (me, reppin’ Orlando because duh), ready for battle. I mean, a meal. No utensils and no napkins. No problem, right? We had three different cocktails that were deliciously refreshing. There’s nothing quite like eating beef carpaccio and potatoes, all while grabbing your cocktail full of meat fingers. ha!
After dinner and a good cleanup, we gathered downstairs where we bottled our very own Beam! Grabbing a bottle, we placed stickers on it, filled it with non-chill filtered Urban Stillhouse Select, bottled and corked it. And I couldn’t leave without getting it signed by the men themselves.
Well kids, I’ll be back Tuesday with some holiday recapping and the closing out of the Kentucky Bourbon Affair’s last two events. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Stay safe and rock that red, white and blue, my fellow American buds!
