Ah, how have we made it here already (ok, maybe just me)? By the end of it all, I can say with great confidence that the final event I attended at the Kentucky Bourbon Affair was a memorable one. Whiskey Live Louisville is one of those events that you just get if you’re a bourbon lover. You know the prestige. You understand the caliper of attendees that will be present. And you’ve prepped your body for an night of tasting galore.
Held at the Marriott Louisville East, the state’s only bourbon-themed hotel (and where I stayed), it was nice to simply have to walk downstairs to attend the final event of of my tour de bourbon for Whiskey Live Louisville. Not only was I able to taste world-class and rare scotches, bourbons and whiskeys, I was treated to a bourbon-themed dinner, live entertainment and early entry into the party.
My VIP ticket allowed me to mingle with distillers, brand ambassadors, and pourers. Not only that, I was able to have access to this extended list of bourbons on top of the too-many-to-count on the main floor:
• Glenfarclas 25 years
• Laphroaig 18 years
• Kavalan Solis Excalibur
• Hibiki Harmony
• Talisker 18 years
• Whisky Live Weller 12 years
• Glendronach 15yr
• Benriach 10yr Curiositas
• Wild Turkey Diamond
• Johnnie Walker Blue
• Michter’s 20 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
• Michter’s Limited Release Barrel Strength Rye
• Jim Beam Distiller’s Masterpiece
• Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select
• 1792 Sweet Wheat
• Aberfeldy 21
• Craigellachie 23 years
• Evan Williams Special Selection
Ugh. Gimme all of it. Side note: I have Jim Beam Distiller’s Masterpiece at home and it’s my absolute favorite bourbon of the moment. I loved sampling some of the super rare bottles from Jack Rose Saloon (tell me anyone from DC has heard of this amazing place – that’s me with the owner Bill). I even scored an empty bottle of Dowling to add to my bottle collection (signed by Jimmy Russell!)
By the end of the night when Whiskey Live Louisville came to a halt, my friends and I ended up at the hotel bar sipping on our very own selection from our rooms. What can I say? I hang with a fun crowd.
Until next year, my bourbon family! A special thanks to the KDA (Adam and team!) for their amazing work and attention to detail. I can’t wait until 2017!
And before I sign off – here is a snapshot of all my swag. I wasn’t able to take it ALL home as my suitcase was already heavier than me. But the good news is I’ll pick up most of it when I see my parents for Thanksgiving in Alabama. Worth the wait.
