There are a few concerts I’ve attended over the years where I’ve walked away and felt speechless. There are a couple key clues. You’ll immediately notice my tired eyes from a few stray tears…a sore throat from singing every word to every song…and a wide smile from the wonder in it all.
Sia was one of those concerts.
Now don’t get me wrong, not everyone loved it. Some complained that she didn’t engage with the audience. Some commented that she just stood in the same spot all night. Well, my friends. Sometimes you don’t need theatrics and overly complex sets to make a show mean something. And that’s just what she did – made us feel.
I have loved Sia since for at least 10 years, listening to her in the early college days and belting out her songs back when she did, in fact, show her face – shocker, I know! She had her blonde hair and timid smile and quite frankly, she just had that stunning voice. That same stunning voice that shook me that Sunday night the weekend before last.
She played all her hits from her album this year, “This is Acting” – all songs that were pitched to “A-list” singers and were subsequently rejected. She then compiled them, sang them herself and published into this masterpiece of an album. The best part of the night? When she sang my favorite favorite song of hers (and top one in my all-time favs list) – “Breathe Me” off her 2006 album (clip below).
So, here’s my photo bomb from my Sia experience with Dawn (+a snap of Miguel, who was a stellar opener for the show).
The last song of the night that she performed was “The Greatest,” which of course made me tear up and have all the emotions. Orlando. Sia. I love you.
