Well hello there! This is my first Blogtember post. That’s right. I’ve joined a link up known as “let’s blog every day in September except weekends” because Jenni is so nice (that’s me being serious – every day just would. not. happen.) Story of My Life Blog provides the topics and we all link up. To say I was ready for the challenge would be downplaying my excitement. I missed Blog Every Day in May because my site was a little late to launch (not your fault, designer friend). So here goes nothin. Hope you enjoy my 5 posts a week on random topics.
After that lengthy intro, here’s today’s post topic. Describe what or where you come from. Well considering I pretty much did this the other week (sigh), I will go into a little more detail about growing up where I did.
I come from a place where everyone says they cannot wait to leave. Get out. Explore somewhere new and never return. Growing up, it seemed like most people just wanted to get away. From what? The small town? The fact that everyone knew everything about the in’s and out’s of your life? Maybe. I mean, it doesn’t sound that appealing to really know everyone in a place where I live (ok, maybe that’s just me). Living in the middle of nowhere, it took at least 20 minutes to get anywhere. School was even farther for me. And a small school it was. All of us graduated and hurried off to our lives in college, everyone branching out into a different place than another. Me – the one that had an itch to get away – didn’t even go to a school that far from home. Guess that’s what happens when you grow up in the same 5 mile radius my entire life. College far away seemed daunting. But that itch remained.
Before I knew it, I was in my junior year of college and now had the requirement to get an internship. After searching and searching in central PA, I came to the realization that no one would even hire me for FREE let alone pay me. So I high-tailed it to Florida. Had I been there before? No. Had I even driven over a few hours straight by myself? No. Was my best friend going to be just a couple hours away in Florida for the summer? Yes. Reason enough to go. Florida and I fell in love.
And the rest they say is history. Or until I blog about it.
Tomorrow’s post: If I had three months to do anything…
