And we’ve made it to the next to last day of the Kentucky Bourbon Affair, kiddos. Can you believe it? After today, just three events left. But before I get ahead of myself, let’s take a moment and recap the historic Woodford Reserve tour – titled, Woodford Reserve Flavor Experience.
Located in Versailles, Kentucky, we spent the day exploring every step of the bourbon making process at the distillery, hosted by Master Distiller Chris Mooris and Master Taster Elizabeth O’Neil. (<<Side note – how do I get either one of their jobs?)
We made mash, sampled new spirits and even charred a barrel. It was really cool to see how they made bourbon “back in the day.” We even learned about bourbon flavor sampling by tasting tiny pieces of food (chocolate, fruit, etc.) and pairing it with bourbon. Each one of the pieces of food brought out completely different flavor in the bourbon – which really shows how complex of a beverage it really is! Elizabeth said she’s even converted non-bourbon drinkers into bourbon drinkers from this test!
Near the end, we all were able to sample a taste of the very first barrel of Woodford ever made. At the end of the day, the behind the scenes moments, coupled with the knowledge from Chris and Elizabeth, made for a stellar day Thanks to Woodford for a true Woodford Reserve flavor experience!
Tomorrow I’m rounding out the week with a journey to downtown Louisville to try our hands (literally) at the Beam’s Bourbon Beefsteak Bash!
